Nearly every time I scan through a batch of photos after uploading them onto the computer, I find that one or two of the photos stand out to me, usually because they look interesting but were complete accidents. Most of the time these photos include my kids. Every mom knows how fast kids move and how its really hard to get a cool picture of them when you're actually trying. So I like to "not try" and simply snap photos of them while they're doing their regular everyday stuff, and sometimes it results in a cool unexpected shot. The other day, my boys were sitting at the table drawing & scribbling, and of course I was annoying them and taking pictures every three seconds. While none of the photos turned out particularly frame-worthy, a few of them made me laugh and feel glad that I'd taken the pictures (because in two years their cute little drawings will be totally different and I'll be glad I took the time to grab a few photos while I could). And the two photos below made me pause and lean my head to one side and think hmm, I rather like how that random shot turned out. In this one, I love how the little car ("No, Mommy, that's a TRUCK!") in the windowsill is in focus. There are always little cars/trucks in the windowsills at our house; apparently they're the perfect height for small boys to push cars/trucks on and watch the tiny wheels turn. It is just one of those random Things About Having Boys that will not be around forever and I know I'll miss it when its gone:
So right after taking that photo, I snapped this next one. In the photo above, the cup is lifted up, so of course it was slammed down right away:
I love how the feel of this photo is totally different than the one taken immediately before. The light looks cool shining through the cup. I also love how the light is coming through behind Dax's adorable tiny armhairs and making them stand out. So like I said, neither of those will ever be framed and hung up, but it made me happy to look at them and as always, an accidentally cool photo is a good learning experience, because it gives me yet one more thing to try next time I'm "not trying" to take interesting photos of random stuff. |
