Roxy & Victor's Maternity Session |

I was so excited about Roxy and Victor's maternity session. Pregnant mamas are one of my favorite things to photograph - I am a total pregnancy/birth junkie, so getting to capture this amazing time in a woman's life simply thrills me. We had perfect weather the day of the shoot, and a gorgeous location, but best of all Roxy & Victor were an absolute delight to work with - they are such fun and happy people, and their excitement over the impending arrival of little Fin was totally contagious. But probably my favorite part of the day was seeing the way Victor looked at Roxy - it was totally obvious to me that he thought his pregnant wife was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen. It brought tears to my eyes when I was proofing these photos!! Here are just a few of my favorites from the session. Thanks Roxy & Victor for hiring me to take your photos! I cannot wait to meet little Fin, he is so blessed to have you both as parents! ~ Lauren

Some times everything just works out perfectly right. Last saturday was one of those days! The Ledgerwood Family and I scheduled a last minute Family session, the weather was sunny, the colors in the park were vibrant, the kids were happy, and I hope the family had as much fun as I did. Beautiful, little Sophia just turned one and handsome little Joey was such a character. I especially love the pictures of the kids playing in the leaves, I can hear their laughter every time I see the portraits. Thank you Jean and Toby, it was a true privilege to meet you and your family, and I sincerely hope our paths cross again soon!- Kara

I had the privilege to photograph a family that is special to my heart. We enjoyed the fall colors at Boulevard park in Bellingham and snuck in as many pictures as we could right before the sun went down. I found myself grinning as a looked through these photos, little Kye is so animated and I was remembering some of the hilarious things he said during the shoot. And sweet little 17 month old Eliza was precious, she warms my heart. I hope you enjoy the photos. -Kara

This summer I was hired by D Square Energy for an interesting job: taking photos at a golf event they were having at the Newcastle Golf Club. They didn't need me to shoot the actual tournament, just some of the stuff going on beforehand. This was new type of shoot for me, so I was excited about doing it. I wanted to share some of the pics here on the blog for two reasons 1) I got to use my new wide angle lens which ROCKED and worked really well for some of the photos, so wanted to show that off; and 2) the golf club is gorgeous and would be a great place for a wedding reception or event, so in case anyone needs such a venue, I highly recommend it. The staff was really nice and the grounds were gorgeous. So, here are some of the photos:

This was a fun shoot for me! It's always exciting to have the challenge of doing something new, and experience different shooting conditions. Kara and I are going to try really hard to keep this blog current! We've been slacking and realize we need to keep things fresh & new around here!

Last month we were honored to be the photographers for Thalia and Reid's wedding day. Their original photographer "overbooked," leaving them stranded a week before the wedding. Not cool! But we were so glad it worked out for us to do the job - thanks to everyone who referred us to Thalia and Reid! It was an absolutely gorgeous, crisp (nice word for freezing), sunny day and since it was two days before my own anniversary and the weather was exactly like it was on my wedding day, I was feeling quite sentimental. I have to say this wedding was by far the most relaxed, happy one I've been around in a long time. Zero stress, everyone was smiling .. as it should be! Here are some of our favorite photos from the day.

Congratulations, you guys! We know you will be very happy together forever!

Well, two months after the fact, I think its about time I put up some photos from Lacey & Kory's wedding! It was the most gorgeous, happy, loved-filled day you could possibly imagine. The weather was amazing and everything was absolutely perfect. Everyone was smiling; there was this feeling of joy throughout everything the entire day and it made me feel so happy to be there and get to be a part of it. I had my awesome friend Kara there to help me and we had sooooo much fun - it was literally one of the best experiences of my life. Here are just a few of my favorite photos from the beautiful day.

What a lovely day, and way too much fun! I will never forget it! Congrats Lacey & Kory .. you are an awesome couple! We loved being a part of your gorgeous day. So after our amazing experience, Kara and I are officially doing weddings now, if you or anyone you know is looking for a photographer! I took a little break from photography over the last couple months but am ready to get back in the saddle and start working again. Stay tuned. :)

If you are in the greater Seattle/Eastside area and looking for a new chiropractor and/or massage therapist, I heartily encourage you to go to Frame & Bodywork in Issaquah. I've been treated by these women for the past 7+ years and would never consider going to anyone else. My friend Briana recently opened this practice - she is an amazing massage therapist (literally, one of the best I've ever been to). She along with a wonderful chiropractor whom I also adore, another massage therapist who also happens to be a dear friend, a lovely billing specialist who also happens to be a friend, and a few other talented ladies make up this wonderful practice where your total-body best interests will be looked after and you will leave feeling like a million bucks.
So anyway .. Briana asked me to come by during the Open House and shoot some photos of their lovely new practice in exchange for a massage (I love nothing more than a good trade!). If you think this place is cute, you should see Briana's adorable old house at the base of Mt. Si in North Bend. Bri's style is awesome; I always walk around her home with a bit of drool hanging off my lip. I am dying to go there one day and take pictures of her home ... but I digress. Here is Frame & Bodywork - drop by in person and get an adjustment or massage; you won't be sorry!

That is the lovely Briana herself in the picture to the right. I am so happy for my stylish, health-conscious, talented friend to have opened her own practice! Like I said, if you need bodywork done, do not hesitate to visit Bri and the ladies at Frame & Bodywork. I can't wait to go see them ASAP! Another cool thing I must share with you: Frame & Bodywork is located in the historic Gilman Village which has an Art Walk the first Friday of every month. I am super excited to announce that at the Art Walk on August 6th my photography will be featured at Frame & Bodywork! I am so very honored Briana asked me to be Frame & Bodywork's artist of the month. More info on that will be on this blog as the date looms closer! Right now I am focused on getting to know my camera again after it was in the shop for weeks (sad story for another time) and gearing up for MY FIRST WEDDING which I'll be shooting on the 23rd. I will have an awesome assistant backing me up at the wedding whom I've never worked with but totally admire her photography (shout out to Kara!!), and I know she and I will work really well together - we both have the same quirky, detail-oriented style. It will be an exciting day for sure, for everyone involved .. I can't wait to share photos of the casual, fun, love-filled beach wedding of Lacey & Kory. Stay tuned!!

I totally spaced on getting little Logan's ten-day-old photos uploaded here. Whoops. He is now six weeks old and even more darling, as if that were possible. This shoot was really fun for me. Logan's mommy (who is one of my dearest, most special friends) had some great ideas, and her home is so pretty and has perfect natural light. We had a lot of fun trying to force Logan into the positions we wanted. ;) Here are a few of my favorites from his session.

I absolutely love when I manage to snag a shot like the one above. Not posed, totally natural, but so pretty and sweet. Logan is already so much bigger and I know in a year or two when he's toddling around wreaking havoc on the house, his mommy will look at this picture and remember how tiny and sweet her little guy was when he was ten days old. Having two boys myself, I know how photos like this help mommies a lot on days when we want to tear our hair out. :)

I am in a slump! Totally unmotivated to take pictures, and nothing is inspiring me. Today I was determined to break out of it. Imagine my surprise when inspiration hit as I was putting the Most Unhealthy Lunch Ever into the oven. I knew if I snapped a picture, rounded the corners, and Photoshopped an acid wash over it, I would love the effect. My mom would detest this picture (she hates when I use actions), but I really like it!

On the to-do list for the weekend: clean the oven.
P.S. - Disclaimer: that lunch wasn't just for me; my two boys (who are big eaters) were eating it too!!

I have to say, it took me forever to proof the photos from Fiona's "8 months old" shoot, and I didn't even do much post-processing. This little girl is so incredibly adorable, I could have kept nearly every image from her session. Sadly I had to narrow it down to a reasonable amount and still wound up giving the parents triple the amount of images I'd promised. Here are a few of my absolute favorites:

[Love the textures in the above shot .. cute tiny knitted hat with my favorite cable knit throw blanket as a backdrop - so cozy!]

Absolutely precious girl. Almost makes me wish we'd tried for a girl ..... ;) I see now I need to use photos with a higher resolution on this blog. I thought I could get away with saving the resized, watermarked images at a lower resolution for a faster upload time, but the quality is just not what I'd like. Note to self: remember that for next time (photos from a 10-day-old baby boy's session are coming soon!).

Recently my aunt referred me to her step-granddaughter Lacey who is getting married this summer. I never planned on photographing couples or weddings but I told myself "just meet with them, and if you don't click, you can refer them to someone else." So, long story short, I made a date with Lacey & Kory and the instant I saw them sitting in Starbucks I knew I was going to love them. And I think they liked me too, because they hired me for their engagement session!
So a few Sundays ago, the guys & I took the ferry to Kingston and spent the day with Lacey & Kory. It was a really fun day, even with the cold drizzly weather. They were so easygoing and fun to work with. Kory hates getting his picture taken but was a very good sport. And their dogs are completely adorable. Here are a few of my favorite shots from their session.

Thanks to Lacey & Kory for such a fun day! Looking forward to your wedding (if you still want to hire me, after seeing your engagement pics, that is - haha!)!!

You know what happens when I do a photo shoot at my house instead of at the client's home? An adorable 8-month-old girl gets a toy motorcycle driven on her head by my almost-5-year-old son, who happens to be wearing a Hulk costume.
Granted, he did put on the costume to help make this sweet girl smile, and he had the best of intentions in driving the motorcycle on her head, but it was just so typical of the kinds of things that go on here in my home. So, if you ever want to come here for a shoot, consider yourself warned. ;)
I am completely buried under proofing sessions. For some reason I thought booking three in one week was no big deal. I forgot how much work proofing is and how LOOONG it takes me. My eyes are going to be so glazed over come Monday, but I am super excited to give my clients their photos. I will of course post some here (including super cute shots of the adorable little lady shown above!), so stay tuned.

The other night, a baby was born to some dear friends of ours. This baby is very special to me because I love his parents so much and know what a long hard road it was for them to get this little guy here. He is precious and adorable (just like his parents), and of course I snuck a few photos while visiting them in the hospital. I am hoping to take some portraits of him this week or next before he gets too big and his newborn wrinkles go away. I am not telling who he is or who his parents are just yet, because I think it is very rude to share photos of babies before the parents get to spread the news. So he's remaining anonymous right now, but I had to share this shot regardless.

Delicious.

Nearly every time I scan through a batch of photos after uploading them onto the computer, I find that one or two of the photos stand out to me, usually because they look interesting but were complete accidents. Most of the time these photos include my kids. Every mom knows how fast kids move and how its really hard to get a cool picture of them when you're actually trying. So I like to "not try" and simply snap photos of them while they're doing their regular everyday stuff, and sometimes it results in a cool unexpected shot. The other day, my boys were sitting at the table drawing & scribbling, and of course I was annoying them and taking pictures every three seconds. While none of the photos turned out particularly frame-worthy, a few of them made me laugh and feel glad that I'd taken the pictures (because in two years their cute little drawings will be totally different and I'll be glad I took the time to grab a few photos while I could). And the two photos below made me pause and lean my head to one side and think hmm, I rather like how that random shot turned out. In this one, I love how the little car ("No, Mommy, that's a TRUCK!") in the windowsill is in focus. There are always little cars/trucks in the windowsills at our house; apparently they're the perfect height for small boys to push cars/trucks on and watch the tiny wheels turn. It is just one of those random Things About Having Boys that will not be around forever and I know I'll miss it when its gone:
So right after taking that photo, I snapped this next one. In the photo above, the cup is lifted up, so of course it was slammed down right away:
I love how the feel of this photo is totally different than the one taken immediately before. The light looks cool shining through the cup. I also love how the light is coming through behind Dax's adorable tiny armhairs and making them stand out. So like I said, neither of those will ever be framed and hung up, but it made me happy to look at them and as always, an accidentally cool photo is a good learning experience, because it gives me yet one more thing to try next time I'm "not trying" to take interesting photos of random stuff.

Hi, I'm Lauren! Yay!
So, two cupcakes are in an oven and the one cupcake says "Man, it's getting HOT in here." The other cupcake turns and says "Holy crap! A talking cupcake!"
